MANILA, Philippines - Like Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) board member Manuel Morato is also asking the Sandiganbayan to allow his continued detention at the St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) in Quezon City.
Morato’s lawyers Dante Diaz and Dennis Manicad submitted a medical certificate to the anti-graft court’s First Division on Thursday to prove that like the former president, their client also needs to be placed under hospital arrest.
Morato’s medical documents show that he is scheduled to undergo a triple bypass operation due to blocked heart arteries at the SLMC on Monday.
“He’s due for operation, he’s 79 years old, he’s blind in one eye and he has surgery on his feet, so he’s not in good health,” Manicad said.
The Sandiganbayan earlier granted Arroyo’s motion for continued hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) because of her medical condition and for humanitarian reasons.
The former president, Morato, and a number of other former PCSO and Commission on Audit (COA) officials are facing plunder charges for alleged misuse of PCSO’s confidential and intelligence funds.
