MANILA, Philippines – Motorists encountered heavy traffic along EDSA on Friday, particularly the area surrounding the malls in Ortigas due to simultaneous mall sales.

As early as 8 a.m., the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), on its official Twitter account, warned motorists that heavy traffic should be expected on EDSA throughout the day.

“REMINDER: Heavy traffic EDSA northbound from Roxas -> Ortigas & SLEX Nichols to EDSA due to 3-day sale at Megamall & Galleria,” MMDA said.

At around 6 p.m., MMDA traffic czar Yves Gonzales said the northbound service road of EDSA approaching Megamall was clear. However, he noted that traffic is “still concentrated on main artery.”

The 3-day sale at SM Megamall and Robinson’s Galleria will end on Sunday.
