MANILA, Philippines - The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) is adding its voice to calls for the delisting of party-list groups related or connected to the government of President Benigno Aquino III.

In an interview with Radio Veritas, PPCRV Chairperson Henrietta de Villa said the likes of Akbayan and the Black and White Movement are not so-called marginalized groups that have the right to join the elections.

Unrepresented voice of the marginalized? Kahit hindi naman marunong mag-isip, kaagad-agad ay makikita yun,” she said.

De Villa also urged the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to filter thoroughly the candidates in the coming elections.

P1 million bond

Earlier, the poll body suggested to require candidates to post P1 million bond each in order to clean the slate from any nuisance candidates.

The PPCRV chief believes this option will only make the elections more expensive to those who have the capability to lead but without the necessary campaign machinery.

She called it very “expensive, elitist and exclusive.”

Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz agreed with de Villa.

He said the suggestion is a superficial one.
