MANILA, Philippines – Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo could be discharged from the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City as early as tomorrow after undergoing treatment for extreme dehydration.

According to VMMC Director Dr. Nona Legaspi, Arroyo has been getting intravenous hydration since Thursday and she is showing general improvement after four days of confinement.

Her potassium levels remain low, however, but they expect this to normalize tomorrow.

Legaspi said the former President may be discharged anytime tomorrow and be treated as an outpatient.

She is required to undergo physical therapy thrice a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Arroyo was admitted last October 4 due to generalized weakness, pain and numbness of hands and choking symptoms. This is after the Sandiganbayan issued a warrant for her arrest on plunder charges due to alleged misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) intelligence funds.

The Sandiganbayan has yet to issue an order on where she may be detained upon discharge from the hospital.
