MANILA, Philippines – Former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is ready to face the plunder charges against her over the alleged misuse of funds at the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

Arroyo spokesman Raul Lambino said not a single centavo is missing from the PCSO coffers and the plunder case against Mrs. Arroyo has no basis.

Lambino said the Arroyo camp may elevate the case to the Supreme Court or file a motion for bail before the Sandiganbayan.

“Pwedeng magpunta sa SC. Yung ginawa ng Ombudsman na paghahain ng reklamo sa Sandigan at ang resolusyon ng Sandiganbayan sa motion for determination of probable cause, nagtaka kami. Di pa tapos pagdinig may resolution na agad at tapos na determination of probable cause. Oral motion kahapon dineny din banding hapon,” he said.

“Pwede kaming maghain agad ng petition for bail tulad ng RTC Pasay at pinayagan magpiyansa. Malaki paniniwala na walang matibay na basehan. Lahat ng pera sa PCSO ay properly audited, may certification of the Commission on Audit. Walang nawawala, walang ibinulsa. Lahat ay properly accounted,” he added.

Mrs. Arroyo remains confined at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) for dehydration.

Lambino said they are grateful for the courtesy and respect given the former president as the arrest warrant was served on Thursday afternoon.

He said Mrs. Arroyo is “legally detained” since the arrest warrant was served yesterday.

Before this latest arrest, Mrs. Arroyo was already detained at the VMMC on elected sabotage charges. The former President had undergone spine surgery and is suffering from hypo-parathyroidism.

In July, she was granted bail by the Pasay Regional Trial Court.
