MANILA - Nancy Binay, daughter of Vice-President Jejomar Binay, has been selected as the 12th candidate of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) senatorial ticket.
UNA spokesman Toby Tiangco was the first to confirm the news in his Twitter account. "Finally convinced Nancy Binay to run for the Senate," he tweeted.
In a separate statement, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan said Binay ranked 12-15 in the last Pulse Asia survey with 27.4 percent of the votes.
"Binay fulfilled the qualifications that UNA elders were seeking for the UNA slate, described by PDP Laban Secretary General Peping Cojuangco as 'someone who would be committed to and uphold the values of the party,'" the party said.
Binay will take over the slot vacated by businessman Joey de Venecia who gave up his slot in the UNA ticket to focus on his business endeavors.
She will also be the third scion of the so-called 3 Musketeers of the UNA coalition. The other 2 are Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile, son of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, and San Juan Rep. Joseph Victor Ejercito, son of former President Joseph Estrada.
