MANILA, Philippines - The Sandiganbayan Fourth Division on Monday postponed its formal trial on the graft case filed against former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her husband, Mike Arroyo, over the anomalous NBN-ZTE broadband deal.

The anti-graft court said it needed to first resolve a pending Motion to Quash filed by Mr. Arroyo as well as other similar motions set to be filed before the court. It said the formal trial will resume on January 14.

The court gave prosecutors 15 days to answer Arroyo's motion, and another 10 days for Arroyo's lawyers to answer the prosecution.

Arroyo's camp earlier claimed the Sandiganbayan has no jurisdiction over the case since the contract was signed in China and not the Philippines. The former first gentleman also noted that he was not a public official at the time of the signing.
