MANILA, Philippines - Poll watchdog Kontra Daya is seeking the disqualification of Ang Kasangga party-list group in the May 2013 midterm elections due to its alleged links to former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her controversial bridges project.

In a complaint filed by Kontra Daya, represented by Father Joe Dizon, the group argued that Ang Kasangga failed to show any track record of representation of the marginalized and underrepresented sectors.

It argued that Ang Kasangga was created and organized solely to benefit the former President and was originally named “Kasangga ni Gloria.” It also noted that Maria Lourdes Arroyo, the former President’s sister-in-law, was Ang Kasangga’s representative during the 14th Congress.

Kontra Daya said Ang Kasangga’s current representative, Teodorico Haresco, is a known staunch ally of the former President. He has a reported net worth of P92.8 million.

The group said Haresco is not a micro-entrepreneur but an incorporator, stockholder and officer of several corporations with huge capitalizations, including Winace Holdings Philippines, Winsource Solutions Phils, Winserve Trading Inc and Eco-Coral Corporation.

Kontra Daya also revealed that Haresco “is more famously known for his involvement in the highly anomalous President's Bridges Program.”

“This project, the brain child of Haresco and to which project he was highly influential as to the choice of suppliers, cost the Filipino taxpayer huge sums of money.”

The controversial Bridges program is now the subject of a Senate Blue Ribbon committee inquiry.
