MANILA, Philippines - Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario said he will continue to fulfill his functions amidst news he has contemplated resigning.
In a text message read by Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Raul Hernandez, del Rosario said: "As Secretary of Foreign Affairs, I have sworn to faithfully serve the country. I remain true to my commitment.”
Hernandez said that del Rosario is now in Washington and will be in New York tomorrow to attend the UN General Assembly.
Hernandez reiterated del Rosario has the full support of the department.
A highly-placed Palace source earlier told ABS-CBNnews.com that recent incidents concerning the back-channel efforts of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV with China over the Scarborough Shoal dispute have demoralized del Rosario, prompting him to think about quitting his post.
Sources said the approval by Malacañang of Trillanes’ initiatives sans his knowledge has upset del Rosario terribly. – with reports from Henry Omaga-Diaz, ABS-CBN News
