MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - Sen. Loren Legarda on Monday accepted the offer of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) for her to join its slate when she runs in 2013 for her last term as senator.
"Ako'y nagpapasalamat kay Vice President Jejomar Binay, President Joseph Estrada, at Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile sa kanilang pag-anyaya na maging candidate ng UNA," she told reporters.
Legarda clarified that she is sticking to her own party, the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC), while being UNA's candidate.
She said it was easy to accept UNA's offer because she was with leaders and candidates of UNA during the 2004 and 2007 elections.
Legarda said she will mount a "green campaign" for her final term as senator. She plans to plant a tree before filing her certificate of candidacy on October 1.
She reiterated that she will no longer seek another position after completing her final term in 2019 if she wins in 2013.
Legarda is currently leading in pre-election surveys.
