MANILA, Philippines - Senator Pia Cayetano is willing to debate with Senator Lito Lapid on the Reproductive Health Bill, even in Filipino.
Cayetano told reporters she is happy that Lapid wants to be informed albeit with contentions. “Natutuwa nga kami na nagsasabi sya na meron syang mga gustong maipaliwanag. I'm very happy to hear that, ibig sabihin, may open mind.”
Lapid earlier said he is afraid to debate with RH bill co-sponsors Cayetano and Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago because he might not be able to answer adequately in English. One of Lapid's concerns is the possible effect of artificial contraceptives on babies.
“Di ba paminsan-minsan naman, pag ine-emphasize ko, para bigyang-diin ko yung mga paliwanag ko, tina-Tagalog ko nga eh. Walang problema yun. Tanggap naman po natin yung Filipino tsaka yung English bilang ating modes of communication di ba? So walang problema yun,” Cayetano said.
She even sees Lapid championing the cause of women.
“He's very welcome to champion the cause of women. Because this is really personal to me. Hindi kaya na women lang ang fighting for women. Not that mahina kami, no, but the fact is we need both men and women fighting for the causes of women,” Cayetano said.
