Links Enrile to GMA
MANILA (UPDATE) - The cat is out of the bag amid rumors of a coup plot against Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.
After a heated exchange on the floor over a bill dividing Camarines Sur (CamSur), Senator Antontio Trillanes confirmed he wants Enrile out as Senate chief over his alleged links to former President Gloria Arroyo.
Trillanes said Enrile is railroading the CamSur bill at Arroyo's behest, based on newspaper reports.
Trillanes also said confidential information from a fellow senator confirmed Arroyo and Enrile are allies.
"Nakakatawag si GMA, solid ang samahan nilang dalawa (ni JPE), nagpapadikta kay GMA. He's being held by the balls. I don't know, baka may utang na loob. Bakit mo isasagasa (ang CamSur bill), 4 months ago inakyat itong CamSur bill. Talagang si Senate President, napepressure ni GMA," Trillanes said.
Asked if he will move to declare all seats in the Senate vacant, Trillanes said: "Not yet. He (JPE) should leave, lalo pa ngayon iimbestigahan si GMA (over the Bridges program)."
Trillanes said he walked out of Enrile's interpellation because Enrile was talking about state secrets. Trillanes said, as a former defense minister, Enrile should have known better.
Referring to former Philippine Ambassador to China Sonia Brady's notes on the recent diplomatic issue with china over Scarborough Shoal or Panatag Shoal, Trillanes said
"what he (JPE) presented (Brady's notes) was a diversion."
Trillanes said Enrile never denied links to Arroyo.
Trillanes said party mate Senator Manny Villar and Liberal Party stalwart Senator Franklin Drilon can take over as Senate president.
"Kapag puno na ang salop. Dapat kalusin," he said.
Asked what he thinks is Arroyo's hold on Enrile, Trillanes said, "I don't know. Maraming pera siguro? Utang na loob? It was GMA and Enrile all along."
Trillanes said Villar had an idea he'll be transferring to the minority.
State secrets, Villar links
Trillanes said Enrile should be sanctioned for divulging state secrets.
Asked about the coup plot against Enrile, Trillanes said, "I don't know about others, I've made up my mind: anyone who will stand up against him (JPE), I will vote for him."
"JPE knew na mag-piprivilege speech ako...Tinawag niya kong coward eh. Senator Enrile ka lang. Titindigan kita. Nakakatawag si GMA sa kanya, solid ang samahan nilang dalawa. Babalik si GMA," he added.
Asked about allegations he's doing this to Enrile because he rejected Trillanes' request for more funding, Trillanes said, "Comments yun ng desperadong tao. Siya ang pinakamalaki ang ginagastos dito."
Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's spokesman Elena Bautista Horn, however, said, "former President Arroyo never called Senate President Enrile."
Trillanes is the party mate of Villar at the Nacionalista Party. Enrile's expose linking Villar to Arroyo is said to have doomed Villar's chances in the 2010 presidential elections.
Trillanes, in his own press conference, noted that Villar was resoundly criticized for being linked to Arroyo, when Enrile himself is supposedly allied with Arroyo.
