MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) chief Jose Gutierrez Jr. has defended his wife from allegations that she is a gambler with huge debts.
But the accuser, former PDEA official Carlos Gadapan, says he has evidence to prove his claim.
A jewelry trader confided to ABS-CBN News that Gutierrez’s wife, Estrella, owed her money.
She says Mrs. Gutierrez bought from her jewelry worth P3 million just last May.
Now she's worried after hearing on the news that Mrs. Gutierrez is allegedly a habitual gambler.
“Ang total na balanse niya sa akin ay P1.8 million. Supposedly, ibinebenta raw. Kaya lang, nagtataka ako kung nabebenta, bakit nahihirapan siyang magbayad sa akin,” the jewelry seller said.
She also says checks issued to her by Mrs. Gutierrez bounced.
“Had I known, hindi ko siya bibigyan eh,” she said.
Former PDEA deputy chief Carlos Gadapan has presented documents showing Mrs. Gutierrez has huge debts.
The documents also show Mrs. Gutierrez had pawned expensive jewelry in Mandaluyong.
“Nananalo naman ito pero itinataya ulit. She will end up na wala rin,” said Gadapan.
Gadapan said he has witnesses and pieces of evidence to support his allegations.
Gutierrez, meanwhile, defended his wife.
“Nakakapunta, naisasama niya noon napakatagal na ‘yung mga kasamahan sa ladies’ club, pero hindi talaga nagsusugal,” said Gutierrez.
Gutierrez added that if his wife has debts, it's not because of casino losses but because of her business. -- ANC
