MANILA, Philippines - The Aquino government’s plan to replace a previous project meant to curb jueteng is bound to fail, retired Lingayen Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz said.
In a report from the CBCP News, Cruz said President Benigno Aquino III could only be referring to “Loterya ng Bayan” when he announced on Monday a replacement for the failed small town lottery (STL).
“I am certain, this will be just another fiasco,” said Cruz, who earlier disclosed the names of government officials involved in jueteng.
Just like the STL, “Loterya ng Bayan” will only end up as another front for jueteng.
He said jueteng is a very profitable business. In Loterya, operators will be forced to pay taxes, he said.
“The Loterya will only be used for jueteng operations because these bets are more profitable than the legal lottery,” he said.
