Probe on ‘grandmother of all scams’ set on Monday
MANILA, Philippines - Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman Teofisto Guingona III said former President and now Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo may be invited to its investigation on the allegedly overpriced President’s Bridge Program worth P111 billion.
Guingona, however, said Arroyo cannot be compelled to attend due to the principle of inter-parliamentary courtesy given to a member of the House of Representatives.
The Blue Ribbon Committee has set its investigation on Monday.
Guingona has yet to discuss with Senator Serge Osmena as to who else will be invited to the investigation. Osmena made the expose Monday in a privilege speech.
Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, meanwhile, noted that the program began during the time of President Fidel Ramos in 1994 and continued towards the Estrada and Arroyo administrations.
Guingona noted that a significant portion of the program was done during the Arroyo administration.
