MANILA, Philippines - Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno on Monday granted fringe benefits to Supreme Court justices, officials and personnel as well as officials and personnel of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET).
By virtue of Memorandum Order No 29 and 29-A, Sereno authorized the release of P15,000 to SC justices, officials and personnel. A similar cash benefit will be given to officials and personnel of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET).
The appellate courts will receive P10,000 while lower court judges and personnel will get P7,000.
The funding for such benefit will come from savings of the SC, in exercise of its fiscal autonomy.
The benefit is in keeping with the tradition of the SC for a newly appointed Chief Justice to grant a one-time financial assistance on the occasion of such appointment, Sereno's memorandum read.
Court officials earlier lamented the "delay" in the release of the benefits, saying Sereno's predecessors authorized the release of the fund a week or within 10 days of their assumption as Chief Justice.
