MANILA - The Sandiganbayan First Division denied the request of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to attend the 40th day mass for her deceased brother Arturo.
Mrs. Arroyo was hoping to attend the mass on September 19 at the Heritage Memorial Park.
The court however said in a resolution that as a detainee, the former President "cannot be allowed the full enjoyment of her rights, be it civil or political."
The court also said that "she can recite her prayers for her deceased brother even while she is in the Veterans Memorial Medical Center."
Arroyo has been under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City since 2012. She is facing a plunder case in connection with the alleged misuse of P366-million worth of funds from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
