MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Former Interior Undersecretay Rico Puno arrived at the Senate to attend a hearing initiated by Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago to determine the alleged corruption in the present administration.
Puno, who resigned from his post on September 11, declined to answer questions upon his arrival at the Senate.
Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago scheduled the hearing after news of Puno's alleged attempt to secure documents inside the condominium unit of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo broke.
There is no indication that Puno was after a certain report. News later revealed, however, that he may be implicated in an investigation concerning the Philippine National Police's purchase of high-powered firearms.
Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Koko Pimentel and Teofisto Guingona III will attend the hearing.
Retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz, Senior Superintendent Joel Pagdilao of Quezon City Police, PNP Chief Nicanor Bartolome, Jocelyn Jose of Trust Trade, National Police Commission Vice Chairman Eduardo Escueta, and DILG Special Assistant Isoceles Potero are also at the Senate, as of posting. – report from Ruby Tayag, dzMM
