MANILA, Philippines - Senator Loren Legarda said she is open to being a common candidate of the two political coalitions in the 2013 senatorial elections, but clarified that she is still in the process of assessing the invitations.
In a press conference on Thursday, Legarda confirmed the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) has invited her to be part of its slate. Meanwhile, she said talks are also ongoing between officials of her party, the Nationalist People's Coalition, and the Liberal Party (LP).
Asked which party she is more comfortable being a part of, Legarda said, "I am comfortable with everybody."
"We are assessing the invitations. We are thankful for all the invitations," added the senator, who is currently leading in pre-election surveys.
Legarda told reporters she will formally announce her decision on which coalition she would be joining before the filing of certificates of candidacy in October. "Definitely before October 1, perhaps a week before that. And maybe over delicious lunch," she said.
Legarda said the NPC has given her a free hand to choose "in consultation with them."
For now, she said she wants to focus on her legislative work.
