Robredo wife to skip probe vs Puno
MANILA, Philippines – Atty. Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo will not be able to attend the Senate's investigation on resigned Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Rico Puno on Friday.
In a letter to Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, the late Sec. Jesse Robredo's executive assistant Domnina Rances said Mrs. Robredo regrets she will have to decline the committee's invitation.
"As your Honor may know, Atty. Gerona-Robredo is staying in Naga City with her youngest child. Even as she grieves for the passing of Secretary Jesse M. Robredo, her hands are currently full in ensuring that her children are coping with the unfortunate event and she is afraid that such a very public event concerning her husband's work might cause too much pain and stress for her family," the letter states.
Santiago said she is disappointed that Robredo’s wife will not be able to come.
“There could have been a lot of factual details provided by Mrs. Robredo of which we are left with no clue, except those that might be elicited from the resource persons--for example, what was the working relationship between her husband and the undersecretary. Normally we will know, even by casual comments made by our spouse in the intimacy of our own household,” she noted.
Santiago said she may issue an invite instead to Rances. “Let us ask the executive assistant what she knows about the papers, not only inside the residence, but also in the office of the DILG secretary.”
