MANILA, Philippines - A Palace official maintains Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Rico Puno still has the trust and confidence of President Benigno Aquino III amid the controversies that have hounded him since he took office.
In an interview with ANC, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. noted Aquino himself does not see anything wrong with Puno's attempt to enter the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo’s office and condominium unit a day after his plane crashed in Masbate.
“The president himself said that he did not see anything wrong with that…For us to imply any attempt or to speculate, I don't think that would be appropriate,” he said.
He also took note that Robredo’s probe on the supposedly anomalous firearms deal that could involve Puno centered on the transaction itself.
“What the president said is that there is review of procurement process, and there no specific personalities being made the subject of the review. That's what I know...All other comment on that will be considered purely speculative,” Coloma insisted.
He also noted Puno may have his reasons for not speaking to the media about the issue.
“I cannot speak for Usec Puno, I think he may have his reasons for not wanting to speak on the matter. What the president has said is not just enough, but more than enough,” he added. - ANC
