MANILA - The weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services (PAGASA) on Tuesday evening said that the low pressure area west of Dagupan City has developed into a tropical depression and has been named "Maring."
In their 11 p.m. bulletin, the PAGASA said the center of the tropical depression has been spotted 200 kilometers west of Dagupan City, with maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center.
Public storm warning Signal Number 1 has been raised over Ilocos Sur, La Union, Zambales, Bataan, western Pangasinan, and Lubang Island.
The weather disturbance is moving slowly northwest and is estimated to be 280 kilometers west northwest of Dagupan by Wednesday evening, said PAGASA.
This tropical depression is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring occasional rains over Central and Southern Luzon. Residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures against possible flashfloods and landslides.
The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 5 a.m. Wednesday, the PAGASA said.
