MANILA, Philippines - Newly appointed Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas is not joining the President’s trip to Russia for the APEC Summit, contrary to an earlier statement of presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.
"I think that was a mistake. I asked Secretary Roxas and hindi talaga siya kasama," Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office (PCDSPO) Secretary Ricky Carandang told reporters.
Aquino is attending the APEC summit in Russia's east coast city of Vladivostok this weekend.
Among the officials joining the President in the trip are Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario, Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo, Energy Secretary Rene Almendras, and Laura del Rosario, Undersecretary for International Economic Relations, APEC National Secretariat.
The Palace said the APEC summit is an opportunity to foster "greater cooperation" among the member nations, as well as strengthen relations and economic cooperation.
Lacierda said that existing issues between the Philippines and China "should not be a hindrance" to discussions on economic cooperation among the member nations.
