MANILA, Philippines - DILG Undersecretary Rico Puno has yet to tender his resignation, days after newly appointed Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas said he would be given full control of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Puno is the DILG Undersecretary in charge of police matters. He is a Presidential appointee and if he decides to do so, must tender his resignation before the President.
In response to a text message of ABS-CBN inquiring as to whether or not Puno had resigned yet, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said : "Spoke with [Executive Secretary Paquito] Ochoa, he says no."
The DILG Press Information Office also said there is no information Puno has resigned.
Ochoa earlier told reporters that Puno remains DILG undersecretary but clarified that Roxas as new DILG chief has control over the Philippine National Police (PNP).
A Philippine Star report, meanwhile, cited sources close to Puno who claimed the undersecretary was leaving the DILG and was offered a position in the Department of Agriculture.
