MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE 2) - Atty. Leni Robredo, wife of the late Interior and Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, may not find herself running for any elective post come 2013. Instead, she may just be sitting in her own sala as a trial court judge.

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) shortlisted Robredo for vacant positions in 4 Regional Trial Courts (RTC) in the Bicol Region, namely: Ligao, Albay RTC Branch 13; Pili, Camarines Sur RTC Branch 32; Calabanga, Camarines Sur RTC Branch 63; and Daet, Camarines Sur RTC Branch 40.

She applied for these salas last March.

JBC member Atty. Jose Mejia told reporters Mrs. Robredo submitted all her requirements and subjected herself to the required interview.

The shortlist will be submitted by the JBC to President Aquino, who will have the final say on whether to appoint Mrs. Robredo.

Mrs. Robredo gained praise from the public for maintaining composure in the midst of the tragedy that beset her family.

In her eulogy, she promised she would continue to uphold the “good name” left by her husband.

According to her, Robredo had his own brand of leadership that transcended even to the simplest of men but she was even surprised to see a “big, burly man crying” over his coffin.

She said that even while holding power, Robredo was very cautious and defied all temptations.

“He was cautious not too enjoy the perks because of temptations…He said: ‘Mahirap masanay at baka hanap-hanapin ko,’” she recalled him saying. With reports from Ina Reformina, ABS-CBN News; and Ira Pedrasa, ABS-CBNnews.com
