MANILA - Sen. Grace Poe rode the Metro Rail Transit Friday morning sans fanfare and without any bodyguards.
Netizens were the first to announce Poe's MRT ride, saying the lady senator lined up for nearly an hour at the MRT North Avenue station before boarding the train.
Pictures on the social networking site showed Poe standing in line with other MRT passengers.
She disembarked at the MRT Pasay station where a defective MRT station crashed last August 13.
An announcement on Poe's official Twitter account confirmed that the senator took the MRT at 8:20 a.m.
Poe is set to lead a public hearing on the MRT incident on September 1, Monday, 10 am at the Senate Session Hall.
Her trip comes just a day after Transportation Secretary Jun Abaya also rode the MRT, earning flak from netizens who said the secretary should have ridden the MRT during rush hour.
Some netizens have praised Poe for taking mass transit.
