MANILA - Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said Vice President Jejomar Binay failed to explain in his press conference why the construction cost of the Makati City Hall Building 2 reached more than P2 billion.
Trillanes said the vice president is already in "panic mode."
"Sa aking palagay, si Vice President ay nasa panic mode siguro dahil napapalapit na tayo sa katotohanan. Sa akin, sa imbes na kung anu-ano ang sinasabi... Sa hinaba-haba ng presscon, wala akong narinig na paliwanag kung bakit umabot ng higit dalawang bilyon ang building. So siguro talaga iyon na lang ang pinaka-depensa nila na ito ay demolition job, na ito ay pamumulitika," he said.
Trillanes, meanwhile, declined to confirm if he indeed spoke to anyone from Hillmarc's Construction Corporation outside the Senate hearing.
He said if Binay would confirm that he got the information from Hillmarc's, it would only show that Binay and Hillmarc's are in "connivance."
He was reacting to Binay's claim that he threatened and cursed at a representative of the contractor of the Makati City Hall Building 2 project.
"Kung totoo 'yan na sinumbong sa kanya na nag-usap sila niyan. Ibig sabihin, magkasabwat talaga 'tong dalawa," Trillanes said.
Meanwhile, Senate blue ribbon subcommittee chair Koko Pimentel said he may issue a letter-invitation to the vice president to attend a future hearing.
"May hearing kami sa September 4. Doon na lang namin pag-usapan kasi medyo full pa yung witnesses' list natin, magpe-present pa ang Hillmarc's and then si [former Makati] Vice Mayor [Ernesto] Mercado, ang COA (Commission on Audit) nandun pa. By September 4 siguro I will issue a letter-invitation to the vice president to attend the next hearing," he said.
Asked if the committee may recommend that Mercado be charged after admitting that he benefited from the project, Pimentel said, "Yes, that's a possibility pero kulang tayo sa detalye. I will pursue the matter in the next blue ribbon hearing, September 4. I will ask him how much, in what form, paano pinadala, sino nagpadala, sino nagbigay."
