MANILA - Senator Jinggoy Estrada on Tuesday urged government prosecutors to present their strongest witnesses in the plunder and graft charges filed against him.
Prosecutors presented Director Carmencita Delantar of the Department of Budget and Management as the second witness in the bail hearing of Senator Estrada and other co-accused in the plunder case on the pork barrel scam.
Delantar is head of the unit in the DBM that prepares Special Allotment Release Orders.
Delantar followed the testimony of the prosecution's first witness, Field Investigator Vic Escalante of the Office of the Ombudsman.
Estrada, however, criticized the prosecution's presentation of witnesses, urging them to bring out their strongest witnesses instead to expedite the proceedings.
"I hope their next witness is Benhur Luy and or Ruby Tuason," he told the media.
"Kasi bail hearing lang naman ito. This is not yet the proper trial... to determine if the evidence against me is strong or weak e di ilabas na nila ang pinakamalakas na testigo nila," he added.
Estrada is accused of diverting millions of pesos of his priority development assistance fund (PDAF) allocations to fake non-government organizations set up by businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles, in exchange for some P183.79 million in kickbacks.
