MANILA, Philippines - An underwater video taken by Task Force Kalihim divers shows the final resting place of a Piper Seneca plane that carried the late Secretary Jesse Robredo, his aide and 2 pilots.
The video showed the plane upended and resting on the seabed at a depth of 180 feet, equivalent to the height of an 18-story building.
Task Force Kalihim chief Maj. Gen. Eduardo del Rosario earlier said retrieval operations for the 2 pilots who were with Robredo were delayed due to strong underwater currents.
He said a team of Korean and Filipino divers will use a rope to bring the wreckage closer to the surface before extracting the remains of Capt. Jessup Bahinting and Nepalese Kshitiz Chand.
He said it is impractical to extract the bodies while deep underwater because the process will take 6-8 hours.
He is confident the operation will be successful, citing the rehearsal they conducted early this morning.
The fuselage, located 800 meters off Masbate at 180 feet deep, was where Robredo's body was found on Tuesday morning. With a report from Jeff Canoy, ABS-CBN News
