MANILA, Philippines – A lawmaker wants the new 30-storey Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and National Police Commission (Napolcom) building to be named after Jesse Robredo.

Quezon City 2nd District Rep. Winston "Winnie" Castelo has authored House Bill 6483, which seeks to name the DILG-Napolcom building in Quezon City after the late secretary.

In the bill’s explanatory note, Castelo said “the proposed 'Secretary Jesse Robredo Building' shall serve as a tangible edifice that will remind officialdom and the Filipino people that there was once a public official, who had raised the quality of public service several notches higher than anyone across time.”

Castelo's bill also requires the government to preserve the building as part of maintaining Robredo's legacy as DILG secretary.

Robredo, who Castelo described as an "icon, advocate and champion of good governance in the country," was killed in a plane crash in Masbate last Saturday.

The 30-storey building is expected to be completed in 2013.
