MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED)  -- President Benigno Aquino III left Masbate for Naga at around 3:40 p.m. on Monday to personally brief the family of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo about the ongoing search and rescue mission for the missing Cabinet member.

He was seen meeting with Robredo's wife Leni and 3 children, Aika, Patricia and Jillian. He showed them a map and explained what was being done.

Robredo's children were reportedly emotional during the meeting.

He spent 30 minutes in Naga before leaving for Manila. He did not grant the media any interviews.

Transportation Secretary Mar Roxas urged media not to misinterpret the event as members of the media were surprised to see the convoy of the President leave the command outpost in Masbate on Monday afternoon.

Aquino spent the whole day of Sunday in Masbate to oversee the search and rescue operations.

According to Roxas, Aquino just wanted to be the one to give the Robredo family the information they need.

“Don’t misinterpret kung bakit sya biglang pumunta dun,” he said, adding that Aquino wanted to pass by Naga before he leaves for Manila in time for the commemoration of the death of his father, Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., on Tuesday.

Naga has a so-called “sunset limitation” since the runway at the airport there has no lights. This means it is not advisable for planes to land there after sunset.

Meanwhile, Roxas said they are still waiting for information from the divers who set off to sea this afternoon, who were still decompressing as of posting.
