MANILA – Former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff Emmanuel Bautista has joined the Cabinet of President Benigno Aquino III.

Bautista has been appointed as executive director of the Cabinet Cluster on Security, Justice, and Peace. He will hold the rank of undersecretary.

Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa signed Bautista's appointment papers last August 11. His position will be co-terminus with the president.

As executive director of the Cabinet Cluster on Security, Justice, and Peace, Bautista is expected to help the President come up with policies on the country's territorial disputes and the peace talks.

Bautista became chief of staff of the AFP in January 2013. He relinquished his post last June after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.

He is credited for crafting the Internal Peace and Security Plan - Bayanihan, the military’s campaign plan to achieve peace on or before the end of President Aquino's term. – report from Junry Hidalgo, dzMM
