MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III will be staying overnight in Masbate as search and rescue operations continue for Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo and the two pilots of the plane that crashed on Saturday.
In the Twitter account @noynoyaquino, administrators said: “P-Noy will be staying overnight in Masbate to oversee the search and rescue operations for DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo.”
Aquino has been on top of the operations in Masbate since Sunday morning. In tow were several Cabinet secretaries and the heads of the military and police.
The small Piper plane carrying Robredo, his aide and two pilots, crashed 150 meters away from the Masbate airport Saturday afternoon as it attempted to make an emergency landing due to engine trouble.
Robredo’s aide, Jun Abrazado, survived the crash and was rescued from the site.
