MANILA - Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said Senator Nancy Binay can file a resolution calling for a probe into the purchase of multicabs for Taguig City reportedly funded by the pork barrel of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano.
"Hindi ko pa po pinag-aaralan 'yun, 'yung mga isyu na 'yan. Pero kung si Senator Nancy Binay mayroon siyang impormasyon tungkol diyan sa mga kaso na 'yan, she is also a senator of the republic, pwede niyang i-file 'yan at gawin niyang advocacy din,” he said.
Senator Binay, however, believes it falls under the “advocacy” of Trillanes. She recalled that Trillanes himself said he would not hesitate to look into questionable projects involving allies.
Cayetano and Trillanes are both stalwarts of the Nacionalista Party (NP).
It was Trillanes who filed a resolution seeking a probe into the allegedly overpriced office and parking building in Makati, where the Binays have been in power since 1986.
Trillanes earlier said the nation has a stake in the issue since Nancy's father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, is running for president.
“Ang qualification kasi, tatakbo for higher office. Si Senator Alan already admitted, declared na mayroon siyang ganung ambisyon. E may ganyang allegation sa kanya of overprice. I think it’s up to Senator Trillanes kasi hindi ko naman advocacy yun eh, advocacy niya yun,” Binay noted.
In an interview with ANC this morning, Nancy Binay’s brother and Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. said Taguig also purchased several reconditioned multicabs that may be overpriced.
Citing documents uploaded on the website of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Taguig purchased 18 units of reconditioned multicabs worth P8.964 million, or P498,000 each.
“You can already purchase a brand new vehicle with that amount," the younger Binay said. – with a report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
