MANILA - Food Security and Agriculture Modernization Secretary Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan said he is no longer interested in running for higher office.

“Hindi ako interesado sa higher office. Mahirap nang nag-aambisyon ngayon,” he said.

He said there are already many people aiming for the highest post in the land.

“Kung si presidente nga maluluha doon sa [State of the Nation Address] dahil sa paninira, pang-iinsulto diba? Sino ba ang gusto ng ganoong klase ng buhay? Dito na lang tayo. I have enough problems as it is, so tama na muna yun. So sila na lang. Marami naman nag-aambisyon eh,” he said.

After stepping down as senator, Pangilinan led a “quiet” life and focused on farming.

He was tapped anew in May to lead the government’s campaign against smuggling, promote food security, among others.

Asked on his thoughts on Aquino’s willingness to amend the Constitution, he said: “Kung ano ang gusto ng taumbayan, ‘yun naman ang iiral. Sa akin, trabaho lang muna tayo.”
