MANILA, Philippines – Justice Secretary Leila de Lima temporarily assigned an official of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) following the indefinite leave of its chief.
De Lima tasked NBI Deputy Director for Comptrollership Rafael Ragos as assistant director to the BuCor. BuCor chief Gaudencio Pangilinan took an indefinite leave following the alleged abduction of convicted killer Rolito Go.
On Saturday morning, the secretary made rounds at the NBP, visiting the security procedures of the facility. It was there that she learned of the escape of an inmate from the maximum security compound last August 15.
De Lima checked the viewdeck of the maximum security compound and had been briefed on how the closed circuit television cameras are monitoring the more than 12,000 inmates at the NBP.
She also dropped by the NBP Hospital where Go is currently confined. The secretary gave the NBI until Wednesday next week to submit the result of their probe into the alleged abduction of Go from the NBP’s minimum security compound last August 14. -- Report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
