MANILA, Philippines - A Pasay regional trial court judge has granted the bail petition of former Commission on Elections chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. in the electoral sabotage case filed against him.

In a 7-page order, Pasay RTC branch 112 Judge Jesus Mupas ordered Abalos to pay a total of P1 million bail bond for the 2 counts of electoral sabotage or P500,000 for each charge.

The grant of bail will pave the way for Abalos' temporary liberty after he was jailed for more than 8 months. He was arrested last Dec. 7, 2011.

Last June, Abalos was also allowed to post P200,000 bail for each count of electoral sabotage charge or a total of P2.2 million for all 11 counts filed before the Pasay RTC branch 117 under Judge Eugenio dela Cruz.
