Ex-SolGen Raul Goco passes away
MANILA - Former Solicitor General and Philippine Ambassador to Canada Raul Ilustre Goco passed away before dawn on Saturday.
He was 84.
Goco died at 1:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Medical Center in Quezon City.
His family said he underwent a successful operation for aneurysm three days ago, but his health gave way.
His remains will lie in state at the Mt. Carmel Parish in New Manila, Quezon City.
His burial is set at the Loyola Memorial Park on Thursday, August 21.
Goco served as solicitor general under the Ramos administration from 1992 to 1996 before he was appointed Ambassador to Canada.
In 2006, he assumed the chairmanship of the College Assurance Plan.
He was also the only Filipino elected to the United Nations International Law Commission, and is credited for litigating abroad and successfully recovering the Marcos Swiss accounts. -- Reports from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM; ANC
