MANILA - Senator Koko Pimentel sees nothing wrong in President Aquino's stance expressing openness to lifting officials' term limits.

But Pimentel believes that President Aquino will not take advantage of the provision that would allow him to run for another term in case Charter change pushes through.

"Walang masama 'yung idea galing sa kanya. In fact, if ever let us say matuloy 'yan, ang prediction ko hindi siya magte-take advantage doon siya sa chance niya to be reelected," he said.

Pimentel, a known advocate of a federal form of government, said that proposals for Cha-cha should pave the way for a review of the entire Constitution and not only its economic or political provisions.

The senator, however, is not in favor of clipping the powers of the Supreme Court.

President Aquino has said the immense powers of the Supreme Court made him rethink his stand on Charter change.

He said the High Court seemed to be using its powers to check on other branches of government too often, disrupting the balance between the three branches.

Amending the Constitution can clip those powers, limiting the judiciary's reach on the executive and legislative branches.

Meanwhile, Sen. Nancy Binay said she is hoping President Aquino listens to the genuine voice of the people before deciding on whether or not he will push through with Charter change.

She also urged the public to pray that the President would remember how his own parents, the late Senator Ninoy Aquino and President Cory Aquino, fought against the Marcos dictatorship.

"PNoy's moral anchor is his parents. Seeking a second term and tinkering with the Constitution would be a disrespect to his mother-a move that would bring us back to the shadows of 1971 Con-Con," she said.
