MANILA -- Retired Major General Jovito Palparan will temporarily be detained at the National Bureau of Investigation, with his security to be augmented by the Philippine National Police.
Facing the media this morning, Palparan said he decided to flee because of threats to his life. “The threat to my life is massive. I know they are determined to [kill me],” he said.
Palparan said he still remembers a newspaper banner quoting the New People’s Army that he is a “dead man walking.”
Only the lawyers and immediate family will be allowed to visit Palparan, according to officials.
His permanent detention will be up to the Bulacan court, the officials added. They will go to the court Wednesday for a commitment order.
The officials said Palparan, who was arrested in Sta. Mesa, Bulacan Tuesday morning, was traced via ATM transactions. – from a report by Ron Gagalac, ABS-CBN News
