MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Senate has suspended its work on Thursday.
Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile made the announcement following a night of torrential rains over parts of Metro Manila.
Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio earlier ordered the suspension of work in all courts in the National Capital Region (NCR), including the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan and Court of Tax Appeals on Thursday due to inclement weather.
Carpio added that work suspension in lower courts outside the NCR is under the discretion of executive judges concerned in absence of any announcement from the national or local government.
The en banc session has been reset to Friday (August 10) at 9:30 a.m.
Meanwhile, the Judicial and Bar Council meeting has also been reset to Friday (August 10) at 11 a.m., according to Supreme Court acting spokesperson Ma. Victoria Gleoresty Guerra.
Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez also said work in all Metro Manila trial courts are suspended on Thursday (August 9). – with a report from Anthony Taberna, ABS-CBN News
