MANILA - The Sandiganbayan Third Division on Friday denied the motions for reconsideration of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile on the dismissal of his plunder and graft cases and the issuance of warrant of arrest against him.
Atty. Dennis Pulma, Sandiganbayan Third Division clerk of court, said the filing of a second motion for reconsideration is prohibited by the court, but Enrile can still go to the Supreme Court.
Enrile, who is accused of amassing P172 million in pork barrel kickbacks, is facing one count of plunder and 15 counts of graft.
The anti-graft court also denied Enrile's motion to fix bail. The court said the defense panel should have applied for bail first before asking the court to fix an amount for it.
As a rule, bail is not a matter of right in plunder cases. The court may grant a bail application if it found the evidence of guilt against the accused to be weak.
