MANILA - Vice President Jejomar Binay on Thursday expressed his gratitude to the sisters of President Benigno Aquino III, saying he is humbled by their trust and support.

Two of Aquino's sisters, Kris and Ballsy, said they have nothing against the possible "adoption" of Binay as the standard-bearer of the administration's Liberal Party (LP) in the 2016 elections.

They said what is important is that their brother's successor will continue the reforms that he has started.

The sisters also said they favor the idea of political parties uniting for the cause of one country.

Binay is one of the so-called "three kings" of the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

"I am humbled that they see me as someone who can continue the good programs of the President," Binay said.

"I share their view that the welfare of our kababayans should always come first and should not be compromised by partisan politics," he added.

The vice president also pointed out that the friendship between the Binays and the Aquinos is a bond that "transcends politics."

He was among those who fought for the Aquino family against the martial law regime of former President Ferdinand Marcos.

"I am glad that Ballsy and Kris have affirmed this bond and I will always be grateful for their trust and support," he said.

Binay earlier said he has been receiving information that he may be an "adopted" presidential candidate of the LP in the 2016 polls.

He said the administration is also studying whether he could become a "guest candidate." Another option is a coalition between the LP and UNA, he added.
