MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III refused to confirm a newspaper report that he is already part of the Liberal Party (LP) senatorial slate for the 2013 elections.
In an interview with ABS-CBNnews.com, Pimentel said he remains open to running under the LP slate but noted he has yet to receive a formal offer from the party of President Aquino.
“The problem with those reports is that it is just coming from the media. I am still open to be a guest candidate but I have yet to receive a formal offer from the LP,” he said.
Pimentel, who had just arrived from Leyte, said there is no scheduled meeting between him and LP leaders.
He reiterated that he will not leave his political party, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), and join the LP. Pimentel is president of PDP-Laban, a partner of former President Joseph Estrada’s Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino in the United Nationalist Alliance.
A Philippine Star report earlier quoted 2 sources as saying that Pimentel will join the LP coalition after leaving the UNA.
