Jun Magsaysay not out to derail Mitos' bid
MANILA, Philippines - Former Senator Ramon "Jun" Magsaysay Jr. is not running in the 2013 polls to derail the senatorial bid of his relative, Zambales congresswoman Mitos Magsaysay.
The former senator said he believes Filipino voters will not be confused with their names. Mitos Magsaysay is married to a nephew of former Senator Jun Magsaysay.
"I don't think people will be confused. She's a woman and I'm a man. I think that's something that's a given. She had been campaigning a long time...It's up to the voters. I believe in wisdom of the Filipino voter," he told ANC.
If elected, Jun Magsaysay said he will push for large-scale farming and a sovereign wealth fund to jumpstart entrepreneurship.
He said he is confident of getting a spot in the Liberal Party's senatorial lineup even after years of being away from politics.
"I think assurance is pretty high. I have no fear. My intention to run is to serve the country," he said.
