MANILA, Philippines - Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has been moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) following her operation Friday morning in St. Luke’s Medical Center – Taguig City.
Arroyo’s spokesperson, Maite Defensor, confirmed this in a text message to ABS-CBN News correspondent RG Cruz.
Her cervical spine surgery started at around 7 a.m.
Arroyo was accompanied by her family before her delicate surgery. She is expected to recover a week after her operation.
Arroyo’s medical team earlier said there is a risk of infection because spine surgery is delicate.
The former president's spine problem, according to people close to her, was already present way back during her college years.
