PNoy is no Maleficent: lawmaker
MANILA - President Aquino is no misunderstood villain in a fairy tale even if he keeps on defending the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP), a youth lawmaker said Monday.
In a statement, Kabataan Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon criticized Aquino for thinking that he could get away with the DAP, parts of which have been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
"Sorry to pop your bubble Mr. President, but you're no misunderstood Maleficent. And you're no wish-granting fairy godmother to the Philippines either. By maximizing all means to defend the assailed DAP, you have shown us that you are a creature of pure evil, a villain who espouses and promotes the very system you promised to slay," he said.
He added: "Aquino has already pricked his finger on the spindle of corruption. And before the sun sets on his disastrous term, he will be removed from office. No power on Earth can change it."
Ridon earlier endorsed an impeachment complaint against the President, which has 3 grounds: betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of constitution and graft and corruption - all stemming from the unconstitutional disbursement acceleration program.
It is the second impeachment complaint endorsed by a member of the House of Representatives.
Ridon said the impeachment move does not accuse President Aquino of pocketing DAP funds. Rather, it questions the President's decision to distribute government funds to agencies and allies in Congress.
"This is a willful and deliberate intent to violate the Constitution," he told reporters.
He said the second endorsed impeachment complaint will create a snowball effect and fuel discontent against the President.
