MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines celebrated the birth of the country's "symbolic" 100 millionth baby when, at around 12:35 a.m. Sunday morning, baby girl Kessmet was born at the Doctor Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Metro Manila.
The Commission on Population or PopCom said the "symbolic" babies will serve as government's benchmark on whether it is providing all the basic services to the people.
Meanwhile, the parents of Baby Kessmet – Clemente Sentino and Dailin Cabigayan – said they are thankful for the government's help for their firstborn.
PopCom said the 100 millionth babies will receive P5,000 worth of basic provisions, along with health, education and other benefits. -- Report from ANC.
