MANILA, Philippines - Weather bureau PAGASA on Monday said there will be no repeat of Sunday's heavy downpour during President Benigno Aquino's first State of the Nation Address (SONA) later Monday.

PAGASA Administrator Prisco Nilo said there will be rainshowers on Monday caused by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) but no heavy downpour similar to what happened on Sunday. "That's the characteristic of "ITCZ. It will rain for an hour and then clear up," he said in a radio dzMM interview.

He added that yesterday's downpour was caused by a low pressure area (LPA). The LPA is already 250 kilometers west of Ilocos Sur as of 5 a.m. Monday, according to the latest forecast.

He added that the the recent downpour continued to increase the water level at Angat Dam in Bulacan. It is currently at 162.29 meters from 162.02 meters on Sunday.

The Ipo, La Mesa, Ambuklao, Binga, San Roque, Pantabangan, Magat and Caliraya dams also showed increased water levels on Monday.

Nilo said he expects more storms to hit the country in August and September. "In July, there were supposed to be 3 storms but we only had 1," he said.
