MANILA - Another impeachment complaint against President Aquino is set to be filed today.
ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio said the impeachment complaint will center on government's enhanced defense cooperation agreement (EDCA) with the United States.
Tinio and Gabriela Women's Party-list Rep. Emmi de Jesus will endorse the complaint, which will be filed by activists Carol Araullo and former congressman Teddy Casino.
EDCA is also being questioned before the Supreme Court though it has to make a ruling.
Tinio said an SC decision is not necessary to impeach the President. He noted that the EDCA is a new military base agreement that bypassed the Senate and House and Representatives and violated the Constitution.
"This is a serious violation and the President must be held to account through impeachment," he told ANC's Headstart.
Earlier this week, two impeachment complaints were filed against the President.
The first was endorsed by Bayan Muna and Anakpawis lawmakers while the second was endorsed by the Kabataan party-list.
Both complaints centered on the disbursement acceleration program.
But the Palace said the President is not bothered by the series of impeachment complaints, saying it is part of the democratic process.
The Palace also defended Aquino's handling of the DAP controversy, saying debates on the issue are healthy and that he continues to enjoy support from the majority.
"The President is accountable to his bosses. He is simply explaining to them the basic issues. They have a lot at stake. We believe that extensive discussions on this issue will help enlighten our people," he said.
